Answering the “What’s Next” Question. . . Follow-On Events
After the Big Conversation, participants wanted more opportunities to get to know one-
another. In light of this, our next event was a potluck dinner and discussion in February,
2018. A diverse crowd of nearly 80 returning participants came back together to share a
meal and a conversation and explore ways to keep building upon these community
gatherings.
Momentum grew and so did the partners. Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church of St.
Leonard, Harriett Elizabeth Brown Scholars and Patuxent Friends (Quaker) Meeting joined
the BC-DRaP team.
The Partners hosted quarterly potluck suppers for the community to continue the
conversation and share stories. With each supper, the audience grew to over 200 attendees.
The focus of the meetings was on understanding implicit bias and the role it plays in racism.
Steering committee members, CMCC mediators and members of Emmanuel SDA Church
helped facilitate the conversations following the presentations. The second dinner
conversation was held at Emmanuel SDA Church in St. Leonard in Calvert County.
Emmanuel provided the complete meal for their 200 guests!
