Dismantling Racism and Privilege

The mission of the Big Conversation Partners in Dismantling Racism and Privilege in Southern Maryland is to cultivate public understanding of the need to uproot racism personally and in the systems that derive benefit and, therefore, perpetuate racism and privilege.

Bringing Paid Family and Medical Leave to Maryland

The Time to Care Coalition, which is championing the effort to pass paid family and medical leave in Maryland, is hosting our official campaign kickoff in advance of the 2022 legislative session. The virtual event Tuesday, October 19 at 6 pm will feature speakers from across Maryland talking about why we need a comprehensive paid family and medical leave program in our state, and how you can be a part of the movement.

MDCEP is an active member of the Time to Care Coalition and we are excited to extend this new opportunity for you to get involved. You can sign up to attend the kickoff by following this link, and please feel free to share far and wide with your networks and contacts! The more the merrier.

Creating Equitable Access to Health Care

No matter where you live, what language you speak, or how old you are, Marylanders should have access to affordable, quality treatment and support from our health care system. And, we know there are policy solutions that can help remove the barriers to living a healthy life.

Join the final installment of our Health Policy Insights series, Equitable Access to Care, to hear from health experts and advocates as we discuss what they have learned working alongside Marylanders in communities across the state.

The August 17, 2021 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has as its theme "Racial and Ethnic Disparities and Inequities in Medicine and Health Care." Many of the articles are available only with a subscription to JAMA, but some can be read free of charge.

New Links Postings

The book linked here documents the development of the Big Conversation on issues of race and privilege. It offers a process on how to develop such a program. It is our hope that it will encourage other individuals and organizations to begin and to continue this important conversation in their communities. While this is a link to Dropbox™️, a Dropbox account is not necessary to read the guide.  The book is Used by Permission.

Ongoing Events

This website represents a community partnership to dismantle racism and privilege in Southern Maryland. It stems from a 2018 public conversation on racism hosted by an Episcopal parish with a history of organizing and modeling civil discussions on topics such as health care, veterans issues, immigration, economic inequality, and gun violence.

This website supports the continuing conversation on issues of race by disseminating resource and event information to sustain the effort to dismantle racism and privilege in Southern Maryland and to realize more fully this region as a beloved community.
