Steps Action(s)
Augment Pool of Even with our Community Mediation Center colleagues, we
Facilitators didn’t have a large enough pool of facilitators to fill all the co-
mediator teams. Several of the planning committee members
were interested in helping, so we provided a Facilitator Training
workshop. Attachments (4 -7). We additionally augmented the
team with a number of local clergy and educators and briefed
them carefully on the day of the event. Having interacted with
them previously, we were confident that they would augment
other team members nicely.
Briefing on the Day Even with the prior preparation, it was important to gather the
of the Event facilitator team 30 minutes before the start of the event. This
provided the opportunity to get a head count (there’s always a
concern about sickness, family emergencies and/or road
conditions), and go over the facilitation plan one last time.
Debriefing Immediately after the BC-6 Big Conversation of Dismantling
Immediately After the Racism, we gathered all the facilitators to discuss what went
Event well, what challenges they had with their groups, and how we
might have prepared them better for the evolution. After BC-7
on Progress and Challenges in Our Schools we weren’t able to do
this. We needed everybody to help reconfigure the spaces and
time was short to vacate the local high school. This was a real
loss in terms of quality follow-up. The lead facilitator tried to
gather feedback through a Survey Monkey poll but the
opportunity was lost and few of the facilitators provided
feedback.
Note: All of the facilitators volunteered their time. Not all of them are pictured below.
