x Eye opening …Having my eyes opened to the racism and discrimination that has
been in our county and our area for a long time and is still continuing.
x There is a lot more history in Southern Maryland tied to White Privilege that
Whites are unaware of, especially people who are transplants to Southern
Maryland. There are deep-rooted behaviors and beliefs based on past history
and events that both Blacks and Whites who have roots here must address openly
(and those who are transplants) – lot of pain.

                      More Follow-On Events. . .

St. Mary’s Community Mediation Center along with the NAACP and other partners
followed our example and hosted their first community conversation on race at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Lexington Park, Maryland. In November 2018, Approximately 100
members of the community attended and participated in large and small group conversations
                      about racism and White privilege.

Calvert Library, a BC-DRaP partner, published the book, Inspiring African American
Men of Calvert County in December 2018. It was compiled by Darlene Harrod with the
help of Shirley Knight. Darlene had previously compiled a book Inspiring African
American Women of Calvert County, which was also published by Friends of the Library.

Continuing the Journey, Big Conversation DRaP, January 2019

Creating a Logo: The Big Conversation DRaP committee remained committed to the work.
By this time, these successful events had gained traction. Momentum was building. We
developed a logo to better identify the Big Conversation Partners and our programs.
