x I will try to get this film before every teacher in the Calvert County school
system. We have made Equity our #1 priority and a huge first step is coming to
grips with our own prejudices. This film has opened my eyes to the progression
of institutional racism and to the fact that it is still in full practice. Change is
imperative and I hope we can start that right here in Calvert County. Please
make sure law enforcement is represented on January 14th. – a school board

Building Bridges Resource Guide: The book study
th
and the viewing of the film 13 resulted in heightened
awareness and concern. Many people who attended the
events, asked, “How can I get involved?”, “What can I
do to help?”, or “Where do we go from here?”. To
respond to these questions, as well as connect the dots between all the other organizations
that were doing work on racial issues in Southern Maryland, we created the Building
Bridges Resource Guide. This guide was developed and updated by CMCC. It lists 31
organizations and individuals who are working to build bridges across divides of race in our
Southern Maryland community. Many of the organizations collaborate on a range of
initiatives. Each of them represents opportunity for others to join in serving our community.
The resource guide was distributed at all our events. It can be found on the BC-DRaP
clearinghouse website: www.dismantleracism.org
Website: John Wilson and David Deadrick, from the Big Conversation steering committee,
created the Dismantling Racism Clearinghouse, www.dismantleracism.org. The website
offers the BC-DRaP Partners and the community a place for sharing information, events and
activities associated with dismantling racism in Southern Maryland. This was yet another
way to connect individuals, organizations and agencies that are doing like-minded work.
