¾ Ombudsman needed for parents and students – (community partners discussion)
¾ Make this a focus or goal for all aspects of Calvert County – get everyone involved –
Commissioners, business, government, health and medical care, schools, churches,
NGOs, watermen, military, library, parks and rec. – you live or work here you have a
role to play.
Students:
¾ Participation very important, need more
¾ Need to listen to them – parents, schools, community
¾ Hold a sperate Big Conversation for students
¾ Need for role models and mentors in the schools
¾ More programs like – Place at the Table
¾ If we are meeting their needs would behaviors improve and less discipline needed?
Teachers, Administrators, Staff and Board of Education
Teacher salaries – incentives, benefits
More Training for all education workforce – racism, bias, culture of minorities and of
Southern Maryland, how to deal with these issues in the classroom and in the curriculum
Diversify the education workforce across the board/all levels
Housing for teachers
Recruitment for teachers (better community support)
Exit interview to determine why teachers and staff are leaving
