1. Effective tools to address racism in CCPS and how to apply them.
2. Better understanding of Equity in CCPS.
3. They acknowledged that this is a difficult and uncomfortable subject.
4. Please that they are willing to be honest on this subject.
5. The students “telling it like it is>”
6. How the adult messages were about the “institutions” of systems racial, school, etc.
7. The “community” involvement and attempt to take on the issues of race and equity.
8. Good to hear about equity initiatives in county and state. It’s a start.
9. Glad they involved the students in the conversation.
10. The guest speakers really care about equal education for all.
11. The students – more work has to be done.
12. Students’ perspective: They realize they have behavior problems because they are in “white
folks county” and they don’t understand the rules.
13. Discouraging and hopeful – We are here.
14. Diverse panel including students for real experiences. Topics were relevant and right-on!
15. Sounds like not much has changed in 20 years. Racism still stands.
16. Why is it so hard to hire minority staff and retain them?
17. Panel was very informative. The students made it “real”.
18. This is my first Big Conversation. I’m impressed with the variety and seriousness of the
respondents. All were prepared. Student- “Connection is a two-way street.”

1. They have listened to the community and are prepared to execute a new and equitable plan.
2. There is a huge gap in the educational expectations between white and minority students
3. There is a lack of effort in mirroring the educators with the make-up of the community they
serve ( little to no minority teachers)
4. Teachers are not trained in conflict resolution.
5. Wow – there is an overwhelming amount of work that needs to be done.
6. Impressed with the amount of time and energy to undertake this conversation.
7. Much was confirmed. Student input was valuable.
8. Policies are in place but the implementation may be stagnant.
9. While there have been policies and procedures that have been put in place over the years, all
have acknowledged that despite best efforts there is still much more that must be done to
truly address the racial equity gaps that exist.
10. We need a lot more teachers and administrators of color. It would be great to have at least
50% more.
11. This school board is making an attempt to address equity in education.
12. There is a huge gap created by implicit bias.
13. I am cautiously optimistic. A lot of the issues are things I’ve heard before, now I am seeking
action and follow through NOW! Time waits for no one.

15. How do we hire more teachers and effectively use curriculum that focuses on the real
history?
