RACISM AND PRIVILEGE IN SOUTHERN MARYLAND

               I. INTRODUCTION

The Big Conversation Partners in Dismantling Racism and Privilege in Southern
Maryland (BCPDRP) is a coalition of community organizations that work to
improve understanding and appreciation of racial, ethnic, cultural and historic
differences in order to create a more Beloved Community in Southern Maryland.

               Concept for a Big Conversation:

                   • Civil discourse that contrasts with contentious conversation and social
                       media

                   • Engagement with the topic while modeling HOW to discuss

                   • Learning as the objective and conversation as a catalyst for action

                   • Reduction of fear and misinformation through encouragement of listening
                       and collaboration

                   • Establishment of guidelines for discussion

               Vision for the Big Conversation

                   • All are welcome to the Big Conversation

                   • To plan and execute at least one, but not limited to one event per year
focused on race, diversity and privilege

                   • To reach the local community and beyond through exploration and
dialogue on key topics that affect our local area while building trust and
                       stronger community

Mission of The Big Conversation Partners in Dismantling Racism and Privilege in
Southern Maryland is to cultivate public understanding of the need to uproot
racism personally and in the systems that derive benefit and, therefore,
               perpetuate racism and privilege.

Origin and Relationship with Middleham Parish

The Big Conversation was founded by Middleham and St. Peter’s Parish in
2011. The Parish provided the project with its administrative and financial
